Mentors as Resources in Preparing Foster Adolescents for Independent Living

Mentors and mentees from 29 independent living programs for foster adolescents were interviewed for this study of the effectiveness of various matching procedures. Hypotheses predicted that age difference, race and gender, and program support would influence the success of pairs of adult mentors and adolescent mentees. A total of 280 mentors and 272 mentees were interviewed at the beginning of the study and a sample of 100 mentors were surveyed again after 12 months.
