An Evaluation of Independent Living Services in Ohio: Digest of Findings and Conclusions

Current and former foster youth in Ohio and their caseworkers were surveyed to examine the effectiveness of independent living services provided in the state. Eighty-one counties responding to a survey about independent living services reported that the services are provided by public agencies or a combination of public and private agencies. Some of the large counties appointed a staff person to be responsible for the coordination of independent living services and 13 counties had specialized staff.Common services included life skills assessment, instruction and training, education and career planning, social and recreational services, and foster parent training.
